The McGill Fencing Club aims to provide current and prospective fencers an opportunity to learn and practice the sport of fencing and become a part of the tightly knit community of fencers at McGill. Our club is beginner-friendly. We offer classes with experienced instructors who are excited to pass on their knowledge, tailored to your level of experience. To register, you do not need to be a McGill Student.

Our classes/practices take place at the McGill Athletics Facility/Gym in which we have a specialized practice studio with scoring machines, an arsenal and a team room. For sanitary and safety reasons, all fencers (regardless of whether you are taking our classes or just free fencing)must have their own fencing glove. If you do not already have one, you can purchase one from us for $25 CAD. We offer both left and right handed gloves with sizes ranging from XS to XXL.

The McGill Fencing Club offers the following classes during the Fall and Winter semesters:

Fencing I: A beginner’s level class, for those who have never fenced before or have very little experience fencing and need refreshment on basic footwork and weapon skills of fencing. Students will have the opportunity to learn about all 3 styles of fencing with an emphasis on Foil. There are two sections available for this class.

  MORNING: Tuesday and Thursday 8:00 a.m. – 9:00 a.m. (twice a week)

  EVENING: Tuesday and Thursday 8:15 p.m. – 9:30 p.m. (twice a week)

Fencing II: An intermediate (casual) class, for those with previous experience (i.e. from Fencing I) to practice more advanced footwork and weapon drills. Students are able to focus on their preferred style fencing (Foil, Epee or Sabre).

  EVENING: Monday and Wednesday at 8:15 p.m. – 9:30 p.m. (twice a week)
